Derek has just returned from performing in the CanStage production of The Overcoat at the Barbican Theatre in London, the Adelaide Festival (Australia), Wellington Arts Festival (New Zealand) and Bergen Festival (Norway) and most recently A.C.T. in San Francisco where it won San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle: Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble and Best Touring Production.
Derek Scott has been working professionally in the performing arts for over 20 years. He wears many hats, that of a actor, comedian and director.
Derek will appear in the new Bruce McDonald film, The Tracy Fragments, and will been seen in the principal role of Billy in the BBC mini series, The State Within.
He was featured in a TV pilot for The Disney Channel, titled Kevin's Castle, directed by Robbie Benson. He also plays the recurring character of Dr. Qu on Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict.
As an actor on stage, Derek has also been a part of the Robin Phillip's Young Company at The Stratford Shakespearean Festival (winner of the Tyrone Gutherie Award). He has worked in most of the Major theatres across Canada, including, Alberta Theatre Projects, Manitoba Theatre Centre, The London Grand, Canadian Stage and Centaur Theatre.
Derek just appeared as The General in the Dora and Chalmer Award Winning production of The General and as Dob in the Dora and Chalmer Award Winning play, Dib and Dob, and the Journey Home, which he received a Dora Nomination for Best Actor.
As a physical comedian, Derek has worked on Television shows throughout the globe including The Comedy Channel, HBO Comedy Special in the US and has appeared for 4 years at the Festival Just for laughs, in Montreal, Canada. He has appeared at the Koln Comedy Festival's RTL TV Gala and has hosted the Halifax Comedy Gala for many years.
Derek has also worked with Cirque du Soleil in Monte Carlo, Frankfurt and Los Angeles, as a Comedian and Assistant Director/Coach. He also created the role of Ben Johnson for Pomp, Duck and Circumstances, under the direction of Franco Dragone.
He also was the director of Germany's, Variete et cetera and created and directed a show for the Boulevard Festival in Den Bosch, Holland, called Otto & Mezzo, a tribute to Fellini.
Also Derek has directed The International Weihnachts Zirkus in Freiburg, Germany as is the winner of the special award at the Chinese Wuqiao International Festival and the Pyongyang Spring Festival in North Korea.
Derek has also performed in a variety of festivals and theatres including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, Rio Theatre in Las Vegas, The Wintergarten in Berlin, Mayakovsky Theatre in Moscow, L'Oympia in Paris and at Her Majesties Theatre in London's West End.
His other television experience includes, writing, directing or appearing on The Comedy Network (Canada), FR3 (France), TVNZ (New Zealand), Channel 7 (Australia), Showtime (USA), SDR (Germany), CBC (Canada), TV3 (Spain) and others.
Derek's career to date was documented and aired in a 1 hour TV Special (Ta-Dah!), based on his 20 years of work in physically based theatre. Another 1 hour TV documentary (Telemebanana) has been made on his creation of a comedy festival in Australia, called, The Brisbane International Comedy Bananza.
Steve Allen called him "Sensational!" He has shared the stage with such stars as Jerry Lewis, Kelsy Gramer, Brett Butler, Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) Andrea Martin and many others.
In addition Derek has taken his physical theatre show all around the world. He has travelled throughout Canada, the United States, England, West and Eastern Europe, Africa, China, India, Australia, and North Korea.
